Rumor Mill: Mets Put Out the Word, Will Trade Prospects To Clear Roster Spots on 40 Man Roster

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, In desperate need of clearing several spots, the Mets have put out word to other teams that they are interested in moving non-core prospects on the 40-man roster.

Among those available via trade: Gonzalez Germen, Darin Gorski, Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Cesar Puello, Elvin Ramirez and Hansel Robles.

Assuming Omar Quintanilla takes the 40-man roster spot vacated by Brandon Hicks, the Mets still would need to clear at least four 40-man spots: for Aaron Laffey, Marlon Byrd, LaTroy Hawkins and Scott Atchison.

If Mets officials are unable to trade prospects on the 40-man roster for other teams' farmhands not on the 40, they will have to start placing them through waivers at the end of the week to clear spots. A handful likely would clear, including Havens.
