Free-agent outfielder Scott Hairston requested a two-year, $8-million contract from the New York Mets, at which the team balked, according to CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman.
Heyman also reports that the Yankees are not in discussions with Hairston, 32, but the Cubs have talked with the free agent.
Hairston hit .263/.299/.504 with 20 home runs in 398 plate appearances for the Mets in 2012. His line jumps to .286/.317/.550 against lefties in 2012, against whom he made half of his plate appearances.
