Wheeler Makes First Start For The Bisons

The much anticipated debut for top prospect Zack Wheeler finally took place. Over 4 2/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo, Wheeler gave up 3 hits, four walks, a hit batsman, and two earned runs. He also fanned seven, while throwing 101 pitches. The Mets' top prospect was having some command issues, but that is to be expected.

Maybe nerves got the best of him, but clearly Wheeler didn't have his best stuff. Although he struggled, Zack still showed he has the potential to be an overpowering pitcher. When he eventually pitches in the big leagues, there is no doubt that Wheeler will have many strikeout victims. I expect Wheeler will improve in his next start, and look for him to do a better job of mixing up his pitches.

Regardless of his performance tonight, Zack Wheeler is still one of the best prospects in the game. It will just take time.
