Johan Santana Completes First Rehab Assignment
by Jason Frank
Johan Santana made his first rehab assignment for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Sunday evening. Santana had 3 strikeouts, allowed a hit and a walk over 3 solid innings. He got some run support early when catcher Kevin Plawecki drove in two runs with a single. Stefan Sabol also added an RBI double, and shortstop Phillip Evans hit a two run shot to extend the lead. Santana was placed on the 15-day disabled list July 21st due to discomfort in his ankle.
The Mets have been on a rough skid since the All-Star break, and could really use Santana's services. The playoff hopes for the Mets are slowly fading, and if they want to have any chance at making a run for a wild card spot, Santana needs to be healthy. Overall, Johan looked good today, and hopefully its not long before we see him back with the Mets.
