Schwinden's spot in the rotation is in jeopardy, don't expect Matt Harvey callup just yet

Harvey not a option
According to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News, The Mets spent part of Thursday reevaluating Schwinden’s job status, and will make an announcement about their rotation on Friday. Naturally, some fans are hoping Harvey will take Schwinden’s place.

But the reality of the situation is that both Jeremy Hefner and Miguel Batista are candidates to start against the Phillies next week and Harvey is not.

Neither are fellow prospects Jeurys Familia and Zack Wheeler, who would not be considered even if he were not on the disabled list for Double-A Binghamton with a fingernail issue.

Sandy Alderson understands the clamor for Matt Harvey, and the desire some fans feel to see a phenom pitching in New York. But the GM also knows that he has a responsibility to treat one of his most valuable assets cautiously.

“Aside from Matt himself — and I love that he thinks this way — there is no one in the organization who feels he is ready to be in the major leagues,” Alderson told the Daily News on Thursday.

Matt Harvey is 2-1 with a 4.80 ERA for Triple-A Buffalo. Also in 30 innings, he has given up 31 hits..

“He has only had 30 innings at Triple-A,” Alderson said. “He is not ready.”
