David Wright to be back this weekend??
David Wright who has a strained abdominal muscle was cleared to swing a bat. His manager has set a tentative date for Wright to make his Grapefruit League debut.
“Hopefully he can get a couple of at-bats this weekend,” Terry Collins said before tonight's game against Washington. “If not, it’ll be early next week. We’re talking about 10 games to get him tuned up. And that’s about the least amount of time as you’d want to get somebody ready.”
Wright graduated to soft toss and light swings off a tee over the weekend. He remains committed to starting on April 5, when the season begins at Citi Field against Atlanta. But his progress has been so cautious that Wright refuses to rush.
“The last thing I want now,” Wright said, “after being as patient as I have, is to go out there and see the finish line and try to really sprint to get there, instead of just taking your time and letting it heal the way it should.”
