Mets Make it official, they sign Frank Francisco
Financial terms were not disclosed, but reports at the Winter Meetings earlier this month indicated the pact to be worth $12 million.
Francisco is expected to become the closer for the Mets. He was 1-4 with 17 saves and a 3.55 earned run average in 54 games for Toronto last year. He converted each of his seven save opportunities and posted a 1.37 ERA after the All-Star break.
The 32-year-old right-hander notched 25 saves in 2009 with Texas, then helped the Rangers to the World Series in 2010 in a set up role. He ranks fifth among American League relievers with 302 strikeouts over the last five seasons.
Francisco owns a career record of 18-19 with 49 saves and a 3.72 ERA in 331 games over seven seasons with Texas and Toronto. He has also fanned 368 batters in 334 lifetime innings.
