Jonathon Broxton NOT a candidate to fill Mets' Closer Job

As Jonathan Papelbon reportedly lands with the Philadelphia Phillies after an oral understanding with Ryan Madson fizzled, the Mets also need a closer. And they are believed to be looking for a competent lower-priced option, who is looking to rebuild his value and therefore would not require a major commitment.

Jonathan Broxton would appear to fit that criteria. But the Mets are not in the mix for the former Dodger, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, who writes:
Free agent Jonathan Broxton, seven weeks removed from minor elbow surgery, is lifting weights and plans to start throwing in two weeks. The Blue Jays among are six to eight clubs that have shown interest and asked for his medical records. The Mets, surprisingly, are not among that group.

Broxton is probably looking at a one-year deal to rebuild his value and go out on the market next winter.
