Midnight is the deadline to sign first-round pick Brandon Nimmo. A team official told ESPNNewYork.com that he expected the deal to be completed/announced in the late evening.
Posturing, Nimmo's father Ron said in the Post: "(The Mets) have some work to do. There's some disparity. It's not all about the money. You get one shot at this deal and you're going to have to live off this for six years."
If Nimmo went to the University of Arkansas instead of signing, he would be walking away from roughly $2 million. And at a four-year school, Nimmo would be ineligible to be drafted until after his junior season. So Mets officials know it's just a waiting game and he'll sign.
