Cameron Maybin hit a solo homer in the sixth and scored the go-ahead run on Ruben Tejada's error two innings later, as the San Diego Padres edged the New York Mets, 3-2, at Citi Field.
Luis Martinez added an RBI single for the Padres, who salvaged a split of this four-game series. San Diego starter Cory Luebke gave up two runs on three hits with four walks and eight strikeouts in five innings. Four relievers held the Mets hitless over the final four frames.
Jon Niese (11-9) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and struck out seven over 7 2/3 innings for New York, which finished its homestand with a 3-6 record.
