Mets #1 Pick OF Brandon Nimmo officially signs

The New York Mets late last night have signed outfielder Brandon Nimmo, their first-round pick in the June amateur draft, to a minor league deal with a $2.1 million signing bonus.

Nimmo, of Cheyenne East High in Wyoming, was taken with the 13th pick overall. He played American Legion ball because Wyoming doesn't have high school ball. He hit .551 with 14 homers, 99 RBIs and 33 stolen bases this year and helped Post 6 win its third straight state title.

The Mets also agreed to terms with their third-round pick, right-hander Logan Verrett of Baylor, their 15th-round pick, infielder Phillip Evans of La Costa Canyon High near San Diego, and their 16th-rounder, outfielder Bradley Marquez of Odessa High in Texas.
