The MRI he underwent Friday revealed no structural damage, and Bay expects to be ready to play in time for Monday's doubleheader against the Marlins.
"I played Wednesday, it was pretty sore. I just thought I would get the off-day," Bay said. "I got here, it was still sore. So we ran to the hospital and got an MRI really quick just to make sure."
Bay would have to miss three days to heal his right shoulder, but the Mets postponed their Saturday and Sunday games against the Braves in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, allowing Bay to miss just the one game. He is batting .233 this season with a .318 on-base percentage and a .341 slugging percentage. He was replaced in left field by Jason Pridie for Friday's game.
"The luxury we have of not playing the next two days, which never happens, actually works in my favor," Bay said.
