Mets News and Notes:
Mets shortstop Jose Reyes is eligible to come off the disabled list Monday but his return remains unclear.
"Jose is progressing," Alderson said. "He's getting treatment (Thursday). He'll be due off (the DL) in several days, but it's not clear whether or not he'll be able to play at that point. This is a two- to three-week injury, probably closer to three than two, given his style of the play and the importance of his legs and his explosiveness. We'll probably be careful with him."
Reyes has been on the DL retroactive to July 13 with a left hamstring injury. The 28-year-old was leading the National League with a .354 batting average prior to going on the DL.
Reyes hurt his hamstring on July 2 against the New York Yankees.
"He's been jogging," Alderson said. "He took batting practice at the All-Star Game. He's doing a lot of activity, but not doing anything that would put a strain on that hamstring. We're being careful with it."
Said Collins: "Until I see him running in the outfield at full speed, he's not gonna play."
Third baseman David Wright is slated to play five innings for Class A St. Lucie on Friday night. He's been on the disabled list since May 18 with a stress fracture in his back.
"I think we will get David back sometime this month," Alderson said. "We're very hopeful of that."
The Mets hope that if his rehab stints go according to plan, Wright will be able to rejoin the team July 22 in Florida.
Left-hander Johan Santana had "been active" over the All-Star break but Alderson was unsure if he'd thrown a bullpen session. He did say Santana was at the point in his rehabilitation where he's able to throw multiple times in one week. Santana has yet to pitch this year after undergoing offseason surgery to repair a shoulder injury. Alderson said the team's place in the standings would not affect their decision to bring Santana back. The GM said it is a priority to see Santana on a major league mound this season.
The Mets also confirmed that right-hander Ryota Igarashi has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Francisco Rodriguez, who was traded to Milwaukee, on the 25-man roster.
