As the Daily News reported Wednesday night, doctors have cleared Jon Niese to start Friday night against the Yankees. Niese left his previous start with a rapid heartbeat, underwent numerous tests at Henry Ford Hospital and was pronounced ready. "I knew it was all just precautionary, but I'm glad it's over," he said.
Niese did reiterate that he deals with the issue regularly, although only when pitching.
"It only happens maybe once or twice a month...ever since I can remember," he said. "It's only when I pitch. It's not like I'm sitting watching TV at home and the heart races."
Niese, 24, said the feeling always passes within "a few seconds," and doctors cleared him to continue with his season.
Collins said that Ronny Paulino had a sore back and knee, but would be able to start one or two games in the Subway Series.
