The New York Mets have placed right-hander Pedro Beato on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his pitching elbow.

The move made Wednesday is retroactive to May 2. The Mets purchased the contract of left-hander Mike O'Connor from Triple-A Buffalo to take Beato's place in New York's bullpen.

A December Rule 5 draft pick out of the Orioles system, Beato has not allowed an earned run in 17 innings over 11 appearances this season. The 24-year-old rookie from New York pitched a career-high three innings Sunday against Philadelphia. He felt discomfort for the first time Tuesday.

His injury comes two days after the Mets learned top prospect Jenrry Mejia has a torn elbow ligament.
