Beltran Switching to Right Field?
by Jess Estremera
Terry Collins met with Carlos Beltran and Angel Pagan early today in a five minute meeting in the Mets Spring Training complex in Port St. Lucie. The speculation is that Beltran has accepted switching positions from Center to Right Field this year according to ESPN's Adam Rubin. When asked if the position change was true, Beltran said that he would not be able to comment until later today. Collins has implied at the beginning of spring training camp that he preferred Beltran to play right field this season, but the manager said he respected the veteran enough to let him have an opportunity to demonstrate he can play center field in Grapefruit League games if that was his wish. Beltran is still performing a running program and has yet to appear in an exhibition game. If moved to right field Beltran may add a few more years to his baseball career.
