Mets remain patient for another starter, mull Dickey extension

In the quest to find another starter, the Mets remain patient and wait for prices to drop according to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News.

Even though the Mets have been linked to Chris Young and  Jeff Francis recently,  but team officials have reported, "nothing imminent" for any starters at this point.

The Mets have interest in Francis , but six other teams do too.  Despite the mutual interest between the team and Young, and discussions this month with Jeff Francis, the team source said Thursday, “I would be careful about attaching any specific names to us at this point (but) wouldn’t eliminate any of the names by any means.”

The Mets are discussing whether or not to give R.A.Dickey a contract extension. Dickey was a big part of the 2010 rotation and hopes to have a big part in 2011 and beyond.

Dickey is in  his last year of arbitration eligibility and  the Mets could still save money on the 2012 rotation by locking him up now. But the new front office is still trying to determine if it believes the pitcher’s 2010 performance was more aberration or suggestion of future success.
