With Webb off the board, Mets Market for second and third tier pitchers opens

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that Webb has agreed to terms with the Rangers pending a physical. This may take Texas out of the running for Carl Pavano, although the team likely wouldn't blanch at adding Pavano to the club.

The Mets market for 2nd and 3rd tier starting pitching officially opens. The services of  Chris Young and Jeff Francis are in question for the Mets now that Brandon Webb is off the board.  Depending on how much per year the Webb contract terms are , it will give other agents guidelines on what they can ask for. Especially for guys coming off injuries like Young and Francis.. The Mets have roughly 5 Million to spend and I guess they would like to spend only that. Most of these pitchers on the market are asking for over 5 Million per season .

Other free agent options for the Mets besides Francis and Young are Jeremy Bonderman, Brian Bannister, Doug Davis, Justin Duchscherer, Freddy Garcia, Brandon Looper, Rodrigo LopezPedro Martinez, Kevin Millwood, Brad PennyNate Robertson, Ian Snell, Jarred Washburn, Todd WellenmeyerBrian Burres, and Jeff Suppan. Pretty slim pickings, I'd say...
