MLB.com's Bill Ladson that the Cubs and Rangers are the front-runners for former Cy Young winner Brandon Webb. The Nationals who appear interested apparently have fallen back in the running for the former Diamondback.
The Rangers have been looking at Webb's medical history. They certainly have a good idea of his health issues since Dr. Keith Meister, the Rangers' team physician, performed surgery on Webb in August 2009 to repair his torn rotator cuff.
As I posted, the Cubs were looking into Brandon Webb. How serious they are about him remains to be seen. A recent report on Bleacher Nation says that after the Cubs reviewed Webb’s medical information, they were no longer particularly excited about signing him.
The Nationals have been clear about wanting a top-shelf pitcher, but might be focusing on Carl Pavano. Washington also is looking for a first baseman, and is thought to be in the market for Derrek Lee.
After the Jayson Werth signing, there's going to be only so much the Nats can do financially.
