Mets sign the Boof

The New York Mets today announced the signing of righthanded pitcher Boof Bonser to a minor league contract with an invite to major league Spring Training.

Bonser, 29, spent the 2010 season with the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics, combining to go 1-0 with a 6.12 ERA (17 earned runs/25.0 innings) in 15 games out of the bullpen.  He started the season on Boston’s 15-Day Disabled List, before returning to pitch in two games for the Red Sox.  After being designated for assignment on June 18, the 6-4, 245-pounder signed a minor league deal with Oakland on July 3.  In 13 relief appearances for the Athletics, he won his only decision.

Bonser also pitched for Sacramento (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and Pawtucket (AAA) of the International League in 2010, compiling a 2-3 record with a 5.59 ERA (35 earned runs/56.1 innings) in 14 games, 13 starts between the two stops.
